Who Is Kara Arbadji?

Kara Arbadji is a performance chef for the New York Jets. However, she is a woman of many talents as she also does hospitality and social media work for the Jets culinary department as well. She is a recent college graduate from the University of Delaware with a degree in food science operations and management.

First Stint With The Jets

Two summers ago, Arbadji first worked with the Jets as she applied to a bunch of jobs in the area and the Jets were one of the first companies to get back to her. Her first phone call was with FLIK Hospitality who was hired by the Jets. Her first phone interview was more generic and more questions about her. However, her second phone call interview was with head chefs Jess and Patty and they clicked from there.

Her role or roles for that matter was a little bit of everything. She did a little bit of everything for them ranging from social media and graphics in house of content for Instagram and TikTok. For her work in hospitality, she was making sure the refrigerators were full as well as the coaches quarters. On the culinary side, she was prepping food and action stations where it is build your own bowls.

Even though she did mostly culinary, she is confident in her culinary experience and wants to expand her horizons and go above and beyond. So in addition to culinary, she also wanted to see how far she could go with her other passions in social media and hospitality.

Manifestation Is Key

Landing a job after college can be difficult especially depending on the field. It is even more difficult to land a job in the sports industry. However, she believes she manifested this job five years ago her senior year in high school. Her senior year capstone project was on nutrition in high school athletes and she spent the year creating different recipes and working with the team captains of the different teams to create something that would benefit them.

She mentions now it is crazy she is working for an NFL team and that she most likely wants to stick with professional sports.

Second Stint With The Jets

When she was done with her internship, the Jets offered a full-time position but she was going back to school for her senior year at the University of Delaware. They reached out to her this past summer but she wanted to focus on going to researching and developing food products. However, due to her struggling to find jobs in that field when September started, she called back asking if they were still hiring.

She is currently there part-time which allows her to focus on other interests such as working as a fitness coach and personal training stuff. Another reason she wanted to go back is she loved the atmosphere there and she loved her boss.

What Got Her Into This Unique Field?

Two of her biggest passions are health and fitness. The Jets were a perfect match for her as she gets to look at meal plans and try to help athletes recovery and the best types of food to help fuel their bodies to ensure they perform at their absolute best.

Day In The Life

Arbadji’s day in the life at work changes depending on her hours. Sometimes she will go in at 6:30 in the morning to prepare for breakfast which is from 7-9 am. Some of her tasks are putting out the breakfast foods and preparing for the day. Also, she at times makes overnight oats for the players to go fridge and other to go items.

Or, she may be tasked for setting up and preparing lunch which is either 11-3 or 12-3 pm where she prepares and cooks the food. Sometimes she gets to interact and engage with the players while building their meals.

Freedom & Specialty Dish

Now that she has been in her second stint with the Jets, Arbadji has a lot more freedom and flexibility which she is very grateful for. She made up a protein doughnut recipe and her chef gave her free reins as she knew Arbadji is looking for a research and development position which allows her to build her portfolio.

Out of all of the dishes she has made, both cooking and baking she prefers baking because she likes taking desserts and putting a healthier spin on them and making it more performance based. Her favorite thing she has ever made was the doughnuts and she mentioned they were a hit.

However, the process of making the donuts was a long one as it took awhile. Usually, she is only used to making around six while she is at home, but now it is a much larger scale as she had to make 120 which took a total of four or five hours.

Surreal Moment

She mentioned working for the Jets was definitely a surreal feeling as she gets to interact with and see the players daily. She also mentions, it is exciting that she feels like a part of it and almost playing a role.

Who Is Gut?

Gut otherwise known is Nick Guthre is a senior student at Ithaca College studying sports media. Playing his high school football at Souderton, the Harleysville, Pennsylvania native was a running back as well as a linebacker. He was very successful at both positions earning league honors. He also was a former football player for both East Stroudsburg University as well as Ithaca. His love for football started when he first started playing at six years old. He was named Nick for the sole reason that his mom thought it was a cool football name.

Recruited as a running back, after transferring to Ithaca, he made the switch to defensive back. He made the switch to defensive back because he felt it was best for him and the team as it gave him more opportunities to see the field and help his team get better.

After two years, he decided to transfer to Ithaca mainly because of how well of a media program they have. However, he also loves their football program as when he was recruited back in high school Ithaca and East Stroudsburg were his top two schools. Gut mentioned transferring was a win-win scenario as he “tiered across for football and tiered up in the media field”.

How Did He Get The Nickname Gut?

Besides it being the first three letters of his last name. Gut also earned the nickname from one of his football coaches in Pee-Wee football due to the amount of kids named Nick on his team. The only people that call him Nick are his parents, close friends, and his girlfriend. He has been called Gut for 80% of his life.

Family Athletic Strong suit

Gut is not the only talented athlete in his family as he got the athletic genes from his mom. In addition to playing football, he also played lacrosse. His mom is a huge football fan but a former lacrosse player. In matter of fact, his mom was on the women’s world cup team for lacrosse. His mom pressured him to play lacrosse around middle school as baseball was always his favorite spring sport.

Playing both football and lacrosse, allowed him to focus heavily on contact, footwork, and conditioning. Also, personally, it helped him become a better leader.

Hung Up The Cleats Early

After multiple injuries including a torn labrum twice, after talking about it with his doctor, he thought it was best to stop playing. However, his lifelong love for football did not go away, as it helped transition into a career in sports. Since his freshman year of high school he has always loved the editing and commentating side of football and wanted to pursue that.

At East Stroudsburg, Gut also had a coaching minor. Although he does not have the coaching minor anymore, he still takes it seriously as he coaches kids in the summer for football. He coaches around 12-15 clients running drills and conditioning. He has looked into it and has coaches at East Stroudsburg have given him the opportunity to coach down the road.

Other Career Experiences

Before BDGE, he had other roles at ESPN and Walterpicks. At Walterpicks, he took over as the Titans Walterpicks creator on TikTok for about a month before deciding to stop due to other commitments such as BDGE and school.

At ESPN, he job shadowed the host of one of the Gymnastics and cheerleading competitions in February of 2019. The host he shadowed Richard Curtis was actually his high school teacher as well. He got to learn a lot from the production side and just picking people’s brains for behind the scenes about how a show is put together.

Process to BDGE

BDGE is a media company that thrives with football content such as football trivia, fantasy football advice and videos, and much more. They are mostly followed on TikTok and YouTube, but have other platforms as well.

After following Nick (the CEO of BDGE) for awhile he decided to apply and send in a video of BDGE. However, he was not confident he would be hired as thousands of people would apply and he did not think he would be hired. For Gut’s video he mentioned it was generic and he only did one take and just set up his phone and mentioned why he would be a good hire.

Role At BDGE

Gut was featured on-air a few times in some of the videos. However, off-air he was working behind the scenes coming up with cool ideas, editing and posting content on their social media accounts and working with Jaymo editing and posting his videos. Also, he works diligently to find ways to grow as a company and the channels including using their sponsorship with Underdog to do a giveaway and grow the company’s discord.

His main role is editing and he is super eager to keep on learning and improving each time. Gut mentioned it is important for the content creator and editor to be on good terms and have good chemistry. He expresses that with Jaymo as he edits his videos and compared the relationship to a quarterback and wide receiver as they always need to be on point to produce at the highest level and in a timely manner.

Gut is still with great terms with BDGE as he was at the office this past Sunday and he hopes to get an offer from them full-time after graduation. He mentioned Nick wants him long-term and is looking to make that happen.

Great & Deep Football Knowledge

Everyone in the company has a great knowledge of football. However, Gut claims to know the least amount. He thrives off of knowing systems and schemes due to his history as a player. He uses his knowledge of the game to make videos on how people fit in systems such as Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell.

His first five or ten games he did not win and now he is competing. The grids and the constant trivia has helped him as the names stick in his brain.

Strong Production Background

He has always enjoyed shooting films and documentaries. He enjoys being in control of setting up the plot and letting it develop as well as setting up shots. The party weekend and draft weekend at BDGE in terms of planning was thanks to Gut.

Career Goals

His career goals is to grow his accounts and expand their media for both his personal account and at BDGE. He would love to expand BDGE to basketball, baseball, and soccer content. On a personal level, he wants to grow and get his name out there and have people ask him for advice on fantasy football or questions about scheme. He loves working with the community and receiving comments and direct messages on advice for fantasy football or wandering how people would fit in a scheme.

Advice To People In The Industry

With the sports industry and sports media industry being a tough field, Gut mentioned try different things because you will not know what you like and do not like until you actually try it. He also urges to be consistent and if you want to create content post everyday and slowly grow your platform. Gut also mentioned do not be discouraged if your videos flop and focus on slowly building a community.

Keeping the same community and interacting with consistent people is some of the things that Gut loves. Consistency, work ethic, and getting through the most difficult times are some of the most important traits to succeed in that field.

The Sacramento Kings, Delta Dental, and Raley’s brought festive joy to Sacramento senior citizens of The Mill Senior Living. Goodie bags with non-perishable items provided by Raley’s and Kings socks provided by Delta Dental were given to the residents. Delta Dental and Raley’s employees served The Mill community dinner. As a part of the Sacramento Kings 21st Annual Season of Doing Good, Kings’ rookie was in attendance as well.

With a plethora of “how tall are you, young man?” Kings rookies Keegan Murray and forward KZ Okpala congregated with The Mill residents. Towering over the residents, Murray and Okpala took pictures, answered many questions, and helped the residents with taking proper selfies.

Resident of the Mill, Jeanne Fuller says she’s been a Kings’ fan since they were in the Natomas (if you’re a real fan, you know). Fuller says that she’s surprisingly shocked with the amount of “life” the Christmas dinner brought to The Mill. Fuller speaks about the lack of community in the Mill at times.

“You see people walking around outside with their heads hung. They don’t want to communicate with other people,” said Fuller. “And now (at the event) this has just brought the moment to life. They’re going to remember this. What the King and Raley’s have done is really the way to go.”

Jeanne Fuller also appreciated that the Kings help decorate the Mill with beautiful decorations.

New to Sacramento KZ Okpala says the most rewarding aspect of this event was “lending a hand.”

“(Most rewarding) feeling out the vibe of the community and being able to help out the senior citizens,” said Okpala. “Giving a helping hand; holiday spirit is always good to do that.”

Delta Dental’s People Experience Special Heather Ludlou has a passion for servicing the community.

“One of our values at Delta Dental is service, so we truly believe that in everything we do. Serving each other and serving our community,” said Ludlou.

Rookie Keegan Murray says the interaction of the senior community was quite rewarding for him.

“Most rewarding thing is interacting with people. You never know what they are going through.” said Murray. “This plays a big part in my life and also their lives.”

With a grand entrance from Slamson, the Sacramento Kings’ mascot, more pictures and holiday cheer ensued. The dinner encompassed community and festival. The residents enjoyed this dinner event and were vocal about their elation. The Kings are not only having the best season in over a decade, but creating more joy for the people who can’t regularly come to games.

Yesterday, the Golden 1 Center was packed with fans, but not for De’Aaron Fox’s buzzer beater or to watch Terrance Davis III drop 20 points. The Sacramento Kings players, coaches and staff held a holiday-themed feast for the community with the partnership of Raley’s. This event is a part of the King’s 21st Annual Season of Doing Good, serving over 200 local youth.

Sacramento Kings President of Business Operations John Rinehart expressed his elation for giving back to the community.

“It feels great to be giving back to the community, using our platform for doing good. Our “Season of Doing Good really emphasizes that,” said Rinehart. “There’s no better time to be giving back to the community than the holidays to celebrate everything that we are thankful for.”

“Raley’s is proud to support the Season of Doing Good with the Kings because it really gives back to the communities in such a meaningful time,” explains Raley’s Executive Director of Community Impact and Consumer & Public Affairs, Chelsea Minor.

This gathering was more than a community dinner. The 916 Crew gave a performance. Not to mention, the Kings players competed with the youth in interactive games.

Terrance Davis III appreciated being interactive with the Kings’ fanbase.

“It’s always great to interact with the fans and enjoy their time,” said Davis III. “They may remember this for the rest of their lives.”

There were more than 20 local nonprofits in attendance: 100 Black Men of Sacramento, Inc., Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento, Center for Fathers and Families, City Year Sacramento, Food Literacy Center, Foster Youth Education Fund, Futures Explored, Meals on Wheels by ACC, My Brother’s Keeper, Northern California Construction Training, Inc., Operation Dez Strong, Project Lifelong, Project Optimism, Inc., Roberts Family Development Center, Shine Together (Formerly known as Teen Success, Inc.), Special Olympics Northern California, United College Action Network (U-CAN) and Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada.

ESPN radio host Don La Greca and radio host and former WWE 24/7 Champion Peter Rosenberg, along with others gathered at WAG fields in Hawthorne, New Jersey for the Mark Sasso Charity Softball Game. Sasso’s wife Anna Marie started the foundation in 2008 after her husband lost a three-month battle to cancer. Sasso, a good friend of La Greca, was the headliner of the event. Growing up in Hawthorne, they both played on the same field as kids where the event is held every year.

In addition to the game, there was a raffle table going on near the snack stand with some great prizes including a 55’ inch television. ESPN radio in the back of the parking lot also had cornhole set up, where fans can win some cool prizes. An auctioned Jacob deGrom jersey, autographed by team ESPN, sold for $325, was added to the event.

After a one hour and 18 minute rain delay, the game finally started in his honor. This is the 14th game in Sasso’s honor. So far, they have used the money to build a playground at St. Anthony’s where Sasso was a parishioner and gave away about $37,000 dollars in scholarship money to Hawthorne residents going to college.

“In the $40 or $50,000 dollar range,” La Greca said of how much money he expected the event to raise. “I don’t know how the rain is going to affect us here, but we usually do really well. They listen to the Michael Kay show, they donate money so usually we are talking tens of thousands of dollars,” said La Greca.

Unfortunately, after only a few batters faced, the game was canceled due to rain and thunderstorms. This was the first time in the history of the Mark Sasso Game where the game was rained out.

In order to determine who plays La Greca and company, hopefuls compete in a tournament and the winning team pays to play La Greca and his team. Even though there were only three batters faced due to weather, anyone there could tell they were still a good team as the first batter sent the ball onto the roof of the snackstand and absolutely crushed the ball.

Even with the weather, there was still a decent turnout as fans were gathered in their rain gear and their umbrellas.

“I love it, when we first started it, I was always apprehensive like who is going to come all the way to Hawthorne for a charity event like this,” said La Greca. “I’m always blown away by the amount of people even today like you said, it was a good turnout considering it’s been raining for a few hours and affected everything,” said La Greca.

In addition to the event and the game, it was good for the players who got to see and meet new people. It was a unique and cool experience for the fans who had the privilege to meet La Greca, Rosenberg, Danielle McCartan and many others whom they have always admired.

Even though the game was eventually canceled, it was a wonderful outing to pay tribute to an amazing man who has left an indelible impression in the hearts of all those who knew him. Every year, rain or shine Sasso’s legacy lives on and thousands of people still donate for a good cause.

The Sacramento Kings, The Center at Sierra Health Foundation’s Build. Black. Coalition, Black Child Legacy Campaign and My Brother’s Keeper join forces to the fifth season of the Kings and Queens Rise Co-Ed Youth Sports and Mentoring League. This was the kickoff event for the Kings and Queens Rising Basketball Camp. The event was held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Technology Academy.

The Sacramento Kings Jr. program is an eight-week basketball program with 24 teams of 4th through 10th graders in the Sacramento area. The participants were in for quite a surprise when newly drafted Keegan Murray entered the court. Murray was drafted fourth overall pick just two days ago. In addition to pictures, Murray offered the students candid encouragement.

“Just wisdom for you guys; when I was growing up, I was never ranked, recruited. You see all those five-star, four-star guys, you think that’s the end all, be all,” said Murray. “At the end of the day, if you work, something will happen. You never know when something will happen to you. Just know when you put in that effort into whatever you do: in a classroom, on the court, just in life, something good will happen to you at some point.”

Not only were the students elated to see the rookie, Murray was just as thrilled to meet them.

“These kids are really special in their own right. To see them so excited about the game of basketball, I feel it’s very cool,” said Murray.

Kings and Queens Rise is led in partnerships by the Sacramento Kings and The Center at Sierra Health Foundation’s Build. Black. Coalition, Black Child Legacy Campaign and My Brother’s Keeper Sacramento programs.

The Sacramento Kings honor tech students with an All-Star panel: Vivek Ranadivé, Former NBA player Baron Davis, Investor and Venture Capitalist Arlan Hamilton, Former Mayor of Stockton Michael Tubbs, and Former King Metta World Peace with special guest Grammy Award winning musician Madison Calley Jenkins and Entrepreneur Michaela Shiloh join host Matt Barnes for an open dialogue to inspire local diverse entrepreneurs and distinguishing tech. Many mics were dropped with knowledge and veracity regarding tech.

Matt Barnes began stating his excitement for the panel. “Basketball is great.. but touching people’s lives is important.”

Here are a few insightful nuggets of information provided by the panelists:

“Be ferocious”

Kings Owner Vivek Ranadivé consistently stated what he expects when invested in a start-up: a ferocious mindset. This mindset requires passion and tenacity. Additionally,  Ranadivé emphasized surrounding himself with people who are smarter than him as a significant key to life.

“Go Through the Process.”

Baron Davis gave great advice for future entrepreneurs. Davis explains the importance of listening.

“A lot of the time we listen, but we don’t hear shit because we don’t want to hear a no.” said Davis.

Often people are afraid to hear no, but that rejection can be powerful. “Translating” and “digesting” the response is key to understanding the product and yourself better. Davis emphasizing digesting your criticisms is a part of your research.

Matt Barnes added to this thought by conveying that investors are not only investing the product, they are investing with the innovator.

“Your company is not the next ___”

Investor and Venture capital , Arlan Hamilton was homeless just seven years ago, however she had plans and goals that she knew would be beneficial in the future. Hamilton admits she’s not interested in being “realistic.” Hamilton’s accomplishments have exceeded her fears, therefore Hamilton prefers for tech professionals and investors to dream big. However, there is a statement Hamilton feels is non-practical when looking for investors, “I’m the next (insert major company).” It is best to be original, even if their product rivals a larger company. Hamilton expressed the difference of confidence versus overhype.

The tech industry may not be as evolved as advertised. There are still many hurdles in the industry for women and people of color. However, this panel gave meaningful information that will assist the younger generation in creating as opposed to consuming.

Picture two mascots: one a tiger, the other the Stockton Kings’ Mascot Dunkson. Then imagine the young children running to engage with both mascots in appreciation. Well, that was Sequoia Elementary last week. The Stockton Kings, G-League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, partnered with Kaiser Permanente and Second Harvest for a food drive at Sequoia Elementary in Manteca, California.

There were 30 to 40 pounds of fresh produce, perishable and non-perishable goods to over 300 families. The Second Harvest “Mobile Fresh” program serves areas of need where there are barriers to fresh produce, limited budgets, lack of nearby grocery stores, transportation, and/or health/disability issues.

Sequoia Elementary hosts a monthly food drive for the community. The Outreach Assistant, Marisela Martinez II led much of the day’s activities.

“Today was super important because we know hard times are going on. We knew there was a huge need in our community to have food with all the prices going up. We were really excited when Second Harvest spoke to us,” says Martinez II. “We jumped on the opportunity.”

Not only was the Stockton Kings’ mascot and staff in attendance, the VP of Operations, Aaron Morales, was instrumental in the food drive.

“We are excited to be here in partnership with Second Harvest and Kaiser Permanente. We have designated them as our choice nonprofit for the school year,” Morales says proudly. “Our partnership will be providing (the community) with the resources they need, not only for the families, but for the students.”

The children were elated to have mascots congregate with mascots. While the older students (6th through 8th graders) helped with the food drive and met professionals from Second Harvest, Kaiser Permanente, and the Stockton Kings. The students were more than excited to offer to spend their time to enrich the Manteza community.

Assistant Rico Coach Hines was introduced by Marcus Strother, President and CEO of MENTOR California. Not only is Hines an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings, Hines mentors eight inspiring NBA and college coaches.

“I really love to invest in our young people because I think they are the future. They are way smarter than us. I love to learn from the young people. I always ask them a lot of questions about what they see and what they are doing,” said Assistant Coach Hines. “It helps the old people stay young. It helps me to understand what is going on in the world.”

Coach Hines discussed pivotal moments in his life that propelled his success. Hines gave a myriad of gem takeaways

“Making money is the byproduct of doing things the right way.”

After Coach Hines’ stint with coaching his former agent, he was offered a coaching position with the New Orleans Pelicans for less than the average NBA coach makes. But that did not deter Hines from seizing the opportunity. Hines understood the “bigger picture” and knew the role was in alignment with his passions. Understanding that he would excel in his responsibilities, Hines knew the monetary reward will eventually follow.

“Stacking days”

Assistant Coach Hines’ lecture on “stacking days” went viral due to the message resonating with many. Creating a routine and sticking to it is a life principle that Hines is adamant about. The repetition conditions an individuals’ mind, which leads to not breaking routines.

“Knowing your big picture.”

Coach Hines stressed understanding the end goal. Being head coach is his end goal and Hines is continuing the process. Having a five year plan is imperative to Hines and he advocates for everyone to have in goal planning.

“Don’t be microwavable”

Instant gratification is effortless with social media, but Hines appreciates individuals that do not have “microwavable success.” This means putting the time and effort into one’s craft and allowing the growing process to occur.

The Sacramento Kings partnered with the Milwaukee Bucks for Team Up for Change to battle injustices and enhance communities. The event embodied giving the community the necessary tools to thrive.
