Back Sports Page presents a new episode of the Exit Velo podcast with your hosts Adam Cohen and Maxwell Runde.

Adam and Maxwell go over the highlights of the Wild Card series, the Division series, the first two games of the American League Championship series, and preview the National League Championship series. The New York Yankees and Gerrit Cole are blasted for their World Series drought and their poor performance in the playoffs. The Tampa Bay Rays are also criticized for their weak rotation and stable of (relief) horses ending the American League’s favorites season. However, the St. Louis Cardinals are praised for arguably the best game of the postseason and handling their own against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Nevertheless, Adam and Maxwell are both confused as to why Mike Shildt was fired, and discuss the manager pool for the 2022 season. Meanwhile, they are both shocked that the Chicago White Sox and Milwaukee Brewers were steamrolled by the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves, respectively. The duo also issued their frustrations about the teams left in the playoff race and both want the Atlanta Braves to come out on top. Yet, since the Braves will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS, the two baseball fanatics have their doubts about Freddie Freeman’s and Ronald Acuna Jr.’s team moving past the 106-win juggernaut.

Back Sports Page presents a new episode of the Exit Velo podcast with your hosts Adam Cohen, Henry Winkelhake, and Ben Rossi.

In this episode, the team discusses an eventful Game 162 that featured a 1-0 victory in the bottom of the ninth by the New York Yankees to secure a playoff berth. However, the Boston Red Sox held serve and won their Game 162 to hold home-field advantage for the American League Wild Card game. Since both teams won, they officially eliminated the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners from playoff contention.

Meanwhile, in the National League, the San Francisco Giants won their final matchup of the season to secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and force the Los Angeles Dodgers to play in the wild card game. Therefore, the Yankees and Red Sox play the ALWC on Oct. 5, the Dodgers host the St. Louis Cardinals on Oct. 6 in the NLWC. As for the American League Division Series, the Houston Astros host the Chicago White Sox, and the winner between Boston and New York will play against the Tampa Bay Rays. Both matchups start on Oct. 6. In the National League Division Series, the Milwaukee Brewers host the Atlanta Braves, while the winner of the NLWC will play the Giants. Both NLDS games start on Oct. 7. The crew highlights the key factors of each series coming up.

Back Sports Page presents a new episode of the Exit Velo podcast with your hosts Henry Winkelhake and Adam Cohen.

Henry and Adam discuss the legacy of the four members of the 2020 Hall of Fame class which consists of Derek Jeter, Larry Walker, Ted Simmons, and Marvin Miller. Although Jeter and Walker are more brand names, the crew discusses why Simmons and Miller are less talked about amongst baseball fans. The four Hall of Famers were unable to be enshrined last year because of COVID-19 protocols.

Besides the 2020 Hall of Fame class, Henry and Adam take a look at the best pitchers in the American League and National League this year. For the most part, the duo list Gerrit Cole and Robbie Ray as the candidates in the Junior Circuit. However, in the senior circuit, the team acknowledges Zach Wheeler, Walker Buehler, Max Scherzer, Kevin Gausman, Brandon Woodruff, and Corbin Burnes as potential frontrunners. Henry makes the case about which players stand out the most with their season stats in both leagues, while Adam points out how the playoff races can affect both Cy Young awards in 2021. The crew then dives into the shoo-in and fringe contenders for the postseason this year before wrapping up the show.

Back Sports Page presents a new episode of the Exit Velo podcast with your hosts Adam Cohen and Maxwell Runde.

Adam and Maxwell discuss who will end up on top of the NL West. Nobody expected the Giants to perform this well in 2021, and when the podcast was recorded the Giants were kicked out of the NL West lead for the first time since May 30. Additionally, the Giants and Dodgers play their last series of the regular season. The winner of this series could determine who the winner of the NL West will be.

Meanwhile, if neither the Giants nor Dodgers record a sweep this weekend, the Rays could end up with the best record in baseball by Sunday. Of course, whichever team ends up with the best record in baseball, will clinch home-field advantage throughout the entire playoffs. Adam and Maxwell break down the main contributors and surprises for the Rays this season after losing Blake Snell and Charlie Morton before the season began, and Tyler Glasnow during the regular season.

Another impressive feat for the Rays this season is how they have all but wrapped up the AL East title. While the Yankees were in the midst of their 13 game win streak, the Rays won nine straight games. Heading into last Friday night, the Tampa Bay had a seven-game lead over New York with no sign of slowing down.

Back Sports Page presents a new episode of the Exit Velo podcast with your host Adam Cohen, Ben Rossi, and Maxwell Runde.

In this episode, the team officially welcomes Maxwell to the Exit Velo family, and the three of them discuss the winners and losers of the trade deadline. Spoiler alert, the trio decided that teams such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, and Oakland Athletics are three of the biggest winners of the deadline. The crew came to the popular conclusion that the Dodgers are the team to beat across Major League Baseball after acquiring Max Scherzer and Trea Turner. Additionally, Adam, Maxwell, and Ben look at the ramifications of the Dodgers receiving Turner, as Corey Seager may not rejoin the team after the 2021 season. Furthermore, the Scherzer and Turner deal also forced the Giants to go after Kris Bryant and made the San Diego Padres a loser of the trade deadline. Besides the Padres, the Cincinnati Reds also did not do enough during the July 30 cutoff. The Reds missed out on capitalizing on the Chicago Cubs rebuild, and lack of marquee acquisitions from the St. Louis Cardinals and Padres. Because of the flurry of trades, the three baseball insiders reevaluate the divisions and wild card races across the bigs, which includes the new team to beat in the American League.

In this episode, Adam Cohen interviews Jon Zaghloul, an up-and-coming podcaster and broadcaster from the University of Chicago. After being a recruited baseball player out of high school, Zaghloul discusses why he turned down the option of playing collegiate baseball to broadcast sports instead. Currently, Zaghloul broadcasts basketball, football, and baseball for UChicago and hosts his popular podcast called Sports Talk Chicago. Despite being well known in the sports journalism world, Zaghloul majors in economics and tells the tale about how a teacher inspired him to take up the major based upon a discussion about the NFL Draft. Zaghloul also dives into how he developed his podcast and the incredible guest stars he brings onto his show. These guests include and are not limited to professional athletes, comedian George Lopez, and government officials. Additionally, Zaghloul talks about his experience as a broadcaster in the Midwest Collegiate League, one of the most highly touted summer collegiate baseball leagues in the United States. Zaghloul even reveals the story behind how he was asked to leave the broadcast booth and pitch for the Crestwood Panthers in the Midwest Collegiate League. As a whole, Zaghloul gives fans a look into the behind the scenes lifestyle of someone making his way into the sports journalism industry.

Back Sports Page presents a new episode of Exit Velo with your hosts Adam Cohen and Ben Rossi.

In this episode, the team discusses phase one of the All-Star fan vote. Each position has now been narrowed down to three starters, Adam and Ben run down through this list and talk about the biggest surprises. Usually, with fan voting, the All-Star ballot can be biased, and some of the best players are not selected on the list. The duo will determine who will start at each position out of the three choices. The choices that Adam and Ben select could foreshadow who will be starting the All-Star game and who will be the reserves at the Midsummer Classic. Although pitchers are not included in the fan vote, they decide which of the game’s best arms will receive an All-Star game nod. Choosing pitchers is more difficult for the duo, as lights-out pitching has taken over baseball in 2021, and there’s a ton of good arms that could make the trip to Colorado. They find a lot of similarities between their lists of snubs and surprises, but they go in-depth about their few different choices. Besides the All-Star game, the crew talks about two of the biggest storylines of the past couple of weeks. They break down the Cubs’ no-hitter and the curse of the no-hitter for the Diamondbacks.
